Our Founding Year

The Turnhold Group of Companies is formed and incorporated by Garry Simpson with the first acquisition being in Barking for £80,000

1993

Forming Partnerships

Our first Joint Venture. Acquisition of Maryland Flats in Stratford with Croft Homes

Upscaling

Moved from original premises in St Johns Wood to large modern offices in Whetstone, where we still work today

Financial Crisis

The global Financial Crisis of 2008 saw the demise of many of our contemporaries. Having not been exposed to excessive borrowing, we expertly navigated the company through the second ‘property crash’ since inception

2013

Evolution

Formed our own in-house planning department in order to deal effectively with our varied planning applications. This enhanced our efficiency and streamlined our decision making process

2015

Our Most Expensive Sale

We exchanged contracts on the sale of our biggest site, to date, in Wyvil Road, SW8 at a sale price of £23m to a venture capital group

2017

Costly

We aquired uncondionally our most expensive site to date in Hackney Wick. We subsequently obtained planning permission for a 120 unit residential scheme together with 40,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace with a proposed GDV of £82m

2020

COVID-19

2020 promised to be one of our most successful years to date starting with the acquisition of a substantial Brownfield site in prime SE1

In March came the Covid crisis.  The Landhold team have pulled together and are working towards emerging stronger, wiser and above all healthy. We are looking forward to making up for lost time in the latter part of 2020

Commenced regeneration programme of the historic building ‘Cobbs Corner’ in Sydenham SE26 incorporating Nandos and Pure Gym alongside the conversion of the business centre to a high-spec rental product

Formed the Turnhold Group of Companies in 1991 and benefits from over 35 years experience in all sectors of the property industry. Garry started life as an agent in 1987 moving to property development in 1990 Having successfully navigated 3 corrections in the property market Garry leads a highly motivated land team that continues to grow. Known for his instant decision making ability and a hands on approach to running the Company,Garry leads a land team that has an enviable track record of acquiring complicated brownfield development opportunities. The team have the ability to appraise and acquire suitable opportunities swiftly and with minimum of fuss.

Elise joined Landhold from its very inception and has a wealth of property experience spanning over 30 years encompassing sales, management, acquisition & development. During this time Elise has catapulted herself from PA to Office Manager to Director and this has been as a direct result of her unbridled passion for property. The Swiss Army Knife of Landhold, Elise is always looking to learn new skills. She is involved in each stage of the development process from the initial acquisition to designing show flats, from architectural digs to topping out ceremonies. She instructs selling agents and oversees the sale of completed units. A main decision maker within the company she is also responsible for the income and management of Landhold’s comprehensive investment portfolio. With her commitment to Landhold's business strategy she has undoubtedly played an integral part to the company's success.

After gaining an Honours degree in Estates & Management David went on to work in Property Management for 3 years. He joined the Land & Acquisitions team at Landhold in 2002 and since then has generated a vast list of contacts within the property industry. Together with the knowledge to be able to appraise and identify a wide range of development opportunities David is undoubtedly the most prolific land buyer in the team. He is known for his instant decision making and as Director of a young vibrant land team who secured over 10 site acquisitions last year alone, he successfully appraises and oversees all of our property acquisitions.

PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Joining Landhold in 2013 with an undergraduate degree from Loughborough University and subsequent experience in the planning department of a Greater London local authority, Matthew was originally employed by Landhold in an advisory role to maximise the planning potential of each site. Whilst working at Landhold Matthew has since obtained an RTPI accredited Masters at the University of Westminster. His vast academic knowledge has allowed him to succeed in putting together a highly accredited team of consultants and contractors. Working with the ever evolving and often confusing British planning system he successfully secures all of our planning consents. Matthew has a hand in overseeing the complete development process from initial site appraisals to construction of our residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.

Gina joined Landhold in 2000 having gained over 10 years experience in the Letting & Management sector of an established central London agency. Now with over 19 years experience in Development & Investment she has been responsible for identifying and the subsequent acquision of several of our most substantial development sites.With her wide ranging experience spanning the entire spectrum of the property industry she has the ability to assist and advise any of her colleagues and is always first to help around the office. Gina is also responsible for building new and maintaining existing relationships with the many agents and contacts we have successfully built up since we were established in 1991.

Andrea has over 25 years commercial office experience encompassing recruitment, sales and residential property management. She is a particularly fast learner and has built up a vast knowledge of the property industry. This, together with her no nonsense approach to office management, ensures that she has the ability to support her colleagues in all departments enabling them to maximise their working day/time in the office/get the most out of their day. Since joining Landhold we are thrilled that her considerable management and negotiation skills have contributed to the smooth and successful running of the Landhold office.

Since joining in 2015 Claudia is always busy and there aren’t enough days in the week for her. Her responsibilities are wide-ranging and her positive mental attitude, natural initiative and problem solving skills result in any issues or problems being dealt with speedily and efficiently thus enabling her colleagues to be able to spend more of their day working with as few interruptions as possible. She has vastly honed her accounting skills and finds herself increasingly able to assist our Financial Controller. Having worked on Concorde and travelling the world for 12 years as first class cabin crew at British Airways Claudia ensures that all of our suppliers, clients and contacts receive the very best in customer service. It’s a pleasure to have Claudia around the office to help us all out.

Harrison joined the Land and Acquisitions team as a Graduate Surveyor in 2022 and since then has passed the APC and is a member of RICS. Prior to Landhold he gained valuable skill sets working for a Valuation Specialist and a Building Surveying practice dealing with Party Wall agreements and Building Surveys. Harrison has a natural aptitude for identifying development opportunities.

Anthony is a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants and heads an accountancy practice advising PropTech and FinTech companies on fundraising, due-diligence and forecasting, as well as advising on day-to-day financial responsibilities and activities. He has broad management experience in strategy, marketing, IT, legal and project management.

'The Oracle' has been working as a consultant to Landhold over the last 5 years working on specific schemes on a Partnership basis as well as advising on delivery and detailed analysis of appraisals and cashflows on current Landhold projects. With over 25 Years in the industry and as a former Development Director at GL Hearn he led the Mixed-Use development team advising Private and Public Sector Clients. The specialist ‘Air Rights’ advisor in London and UK cities and formerly lead consultant on Tesco's ‘Air Rights Strategy’ ‘Plan for Every Store'. Previously advised on over 9,000 residential units with over £3Bn GDV. Richard sees his role to 'mitigate risk' and enhance the appraisal. With an eye for detail to improve layouts and working with the team, both internally and externally, on specification and design.

Dominic joined the Planning team in 2023 with an Undergraduate degree from Exeter University and a RTPI and RICS accredited Masters, in Planning and Development, from Reading University. He previously worked for around 2 years as a planning consultant giving him valuable insight into the planning system. Dominic helps oversee the development process from site appraisals through to the planning and design of our various schemes.

Our youngest member of staff, Bart-Bart is head of implementing the high-tech security measures that we have in place in order to protect our staff from daily threats such as delivery drivers, postal staff, runners, agents and any unwanted visitors to the office. He either loves or hates people on sight and is ready to attack anything on wheels, including cars, motorbikes and children in prams or on a scooter/skateboard. He is always alert and ready to protect at any suitable opportunity which unfortunately includes anyone holding any boxes or parcels. Obviously very handsome Bart is the most popular member of staff and we all look forward to seeing him each day.
